Solarsisu

Solar Energy based Public Sound Installation2005

Solarsisu is a music instrument that operates on the same principles as a Theremin. The instrument consists of mini solar panels (photovoltaic) which generate power to create sound; the device operates using ONLY sun power. The audience/participants simply play with their hands.

Solarsisu is a music instrument that consists of solar panels. Tunes and rhythms are created when the user is shadowing the panels with the help of her hands. The incoming solar energy is transformed to electricity which then is transformed into sounds. Through this action the basic principles and understanding of solar energy can be achieved in a playful way. The project found support at Tieto TULI which is an innovation developing consortium for a number of universities in Helsinki. Tieto TULI is part of TEKES

Solarsisu have been presented in USA, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
